Using Parallel Corpora in the Translation Classroom: Moving towards a Corpus-driven Pedagogy for Omani Translation Major Students

Research has shown that parallel corpora have potential benefits for translator training and education. Most of the current available Arabic corpora, modern standard or dialectical, are monolingual in nature there is an apparent lack Arabic-English translation classroom. The present study was aimed to investigate problems encountered by Omani major students when translating from into English with a view proposing some corpus-informed pedagogy approach student translators overcome these challenges looking at model samples professional translation. Thirty voluntarily took part investigation. adopted combination both corpus qualitative methodology whereby typical would encounter Arabic-into-English were selected along specific texts involving prepared participants asked translate them English. provided translated compare contrast their translations reflect on overall experience. They then interviewed explore impressions about extent which they think help improve Results data analysis indicated experienced several challenges. They, however, showed positive attitude towards as reportedly found very helpful improving Pedagogical implications teaching, materials design development presented discussed.
